Shooting a roll of Portra 400 costs about R350. Thirty-six frames. You stop spraying. That's the whole lesson.
When I came back to digital after a year of mostly film, I had to physically stop myself from pressing the shutter twice on the same moment. The muscle memory of scarcity had sunk in. I was suddenly choosing frames instead of hoping one of fifty would work.
The irony is that I now keep more of my digital frames than before. Because each one was considered before I took it.
This is the only productivity advice I have for anyone shooting anything: constraint breeds taste.
